Description

By the end of the course the student will be able to;

Define the health and safety requirements applicable to the use of a recovery winch unit
Describe the variations in winch construction
Describe winch theory
Describe the types of winch rope used in vehicle recovery and the inspection and maintenance regimes used for them
Demonstrate how to use the different types of ancillary equipment used in winching operations
Calculate resistances to winching and determine the winch power required for a given situation
Demonstrate how to change the direction of pull on a winch rope
Describe how the position of the casualty may affect the winching operation
Demonstrate how to winch a casualty using a 2:1 pull through 90°
Demonstrate the hand signals used to direct a winch operator
